5 Reasons Why You Should Do The TREBEL Open



The TREBEL Intramural Open is coming up fast. All the details about when/what it is are detailed in this blog from last month (TREBEL Intramural Open 2018).

Right now, however, I want to speak to WHY you should consider participating, whether you are new to TREBEL or an experienced veteran of past opens.

The most common reasons I hear for not doing the open are, in no particular order:

  • “I don’t have the time.”
  • “I’m not fit enough.”
  • “I don’t know enough other people at the gym yet.”
  • “Participating would be way out of my comfort zone.”

My hope is that the following article will give you a better picture as to why we feel the TREBEL Open is for everyone and that it is absolutely worth getting out of your comfort zone for.

#1 - You Do Have The Time (And it’s ok to skip a weekend if you don’t)

The Open will occur on 5 consecutive Sundays (Feb 25th - Mar 25th) from 1:30-3:30pm. While it would be ideal to make every weekend for the entire 2 hour block each week, we understand life and other commitments get in the way. If you have to miss a workout or leave a little early now and then, it’s perfectly OK. More often than not, even after you are done with your workout that week you’ll want to hang around with friends and family over a beer anyway.

#2 - Family Friendly

One of the best things about the Open is that it is family friendly. We will have a kid’s play area childproofed in Space B for the entire event with plenty of adults around to keep an eye on them. And if your family would like to watch you participate they are welcome to cheer you on in the bleacher section by the main training floor.

#3 - You Are Fit Enough

We treat you in the Open the same way we treat you in a group class or private training session. We tailor the workouts to the needs of the individual. We provide a progression based approach to scaling the movements and intensity of a given workout. Just like in our weekly class offerings, we will break the workouts into Life, Fitness, and Performance options and your coach will work with you to decide the right training stimulus. We are here to set you up for success, never to let you fail!

#4 - Community Builder

Perhaps the best reason to participate in the Open has nothing to do with the workouts or fitness at all. Instead, the Open is the best community builder that we offer all year. Last year, we had teams of people who had never met (because they are on different training schedules) come together behind one team. The friends and connections you have already grow deeper and new ones begin. Every week we participate in outside the gym “challenges” that could be getting together for a beer, practicing your handstand, or getting out in nature. The most fun I had last Open season occured off of the training floor because of our great community.

#5 - It Brings Out Your Best

Lastly, the Open is an inspiration to all those who participate and/or spectate. When you have a community of like minded people around you pushing you to be your best, you accomplish things you never thought were possible. It’s motivating, inspiring, and a great example of what we believe in at TREBEL: living a great life!

I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone, give the Open a chance, and join us as we make 2018 our best year yet!
